Irregular Sleep Linked to 172 Diseases

In the largest study of its kind, researchers linked irregular sleep patterns to elevated risk for 172 diseases. Using objective sleep data from actigraphy devices worn by over 88,000 people for nearly seven years, the study found that erratic bedtimes and poor circadian stability were among the most damaging traits.

Loneliness Linked to 24% Higher Risk of Hearing Loss

A new study tracking nearly half a million participants over 12 years has revealed a strong, independent link between loneliness and an increased risk of hearing loss. Even after adjusting for genetic risk, health conditions, and lifestyle factors, lonely individuals had a 24% higher chance of developing hearing loss, especially sensorineural types.

Integrating Machine Learning Boosts Disease Prediction Accuracy

A recent review explored how integrating machine learning with traditional statistical models can enhance disease risk prediction accuracy, a key tool in clinical decision-making. While traditional models like logistic regression are limited by certain assumptions, machine learning offers flexibility but has inconsistent results in some cases. The study revealed that combined models, especially stacking methods, outperform individual methods by harnessing each approach’s strengths and addressing their weaknesses.
