Happy Music Could Combat Effects of Cybersickness

Listening to music could reduce symptoms of cybersickness, which can cause dizziness, nausea and headaches when using virtual reality devices. The study discovered that joyful music significantly decreased the overall intensity of cybersickness, while both joyful and calming music substantially decreased nausea-related symptoms. The study, also found that cybersickness caused a temporary reduction in verbal working memory test scores, and a decrease in pupil size, slowed reaction times and reading speed.

Cracking the Code of VR Sickness: Why Some Experience Motion Sickness While Gaming and Others Don’t

The way our senses adjust while playing virtual reality (VR) games affects the severity of cybersickness experienced. Researchers measured how participants perceived the orientation of vertical lines before and after playing two VR games, one high-intensity, and one low-intensity. They found that those who experienced less sickness were more likely to have the largest change in the subjective visual vertical following exposure to VR. The findings could be useful for VR designers and developers in creating more comfortable and enjoyable experiences.

How People Adapt to Cybersickness From Virtual Reality

Those who are prone to motion sickness have a harder time adapting to cybersickness and different virtual reality environments. However, people can adapt to the effects of VR-associated cybersickness by playing the same game repeatedly.

Passive Virtual Reality More Sickness-Inducing Than Active Play

Study finds passively observing virtual reality games increases cybersickness, while actively participating in VR games diminishes feelings of motion sickness associated with virtual reality.
