Active Illumination (AI) used in microscopy seems to be an ever more popular technique for answering questions that were impossible to answer before. There are several technologies, DLP and SLM-based as well as new detector technologies (more sensitive PMT’s and sCMOS cameras) which have given this field a boost in recent years. I’m wondering where the next big development will be in this field…And what the pitfalls are with current technologies and techniques…
